Inclusive Economies. Inclusive Societies.
Collaborative Action for Youth and Women.
Despite impressive rates of economic growth and positive social change over recent decades, youth and women continue to face unfair barriers to economic participation. As a result, those at the margins remain more vulnerable to economic and social instability, becoming further and further entrenched in the cycle of poverty.
The post-2015 agenda has challenged development professionals, civil society organizations, governments and the private sector to support more inclusive markets that will foster shared prosperity for all. At this year’s International Forum, we will explore current approaches and actions taken by practitioners, students and scholars that promote collective action to overcome the barriers that exclude youth and women from much needed economic growth.
The 2016 International Forum will explore how markets are being reinvented at the local and global levels to better respond to the needs, potentials and aspirations of youth and women. When markets are inclusive, everyone is able to access better opportunities, skills and resources that foster long-lasting economic growth. Building economies that include, rather than exclude, is therefore crucial to creating more sustainable societies for the future.
About the International Forum
The International Forum is a unique initiative of WUSC – World University Service of Canada – and CECI – the Centre for International Studies and Cooperation. The fifth annual International Forum will be held in Ottawa, from January 22 to 23, 2016.
The International Forum is an exciting annual gathering where the best ideas and practices for international development are shared. The Forum brings together government delegates, northern international cooperation organizations, southern civil society actors and representatives from the private sector, as well as youth, researchers and international development specialists.
Participants will gain a valuable opportunity to engage with a diverse set of experts on some of the most critical global issues. By generating fresh new perspectives and exploring innovative solutions, participants enhance their contribution and renew their commitment to a more equitable and sustainable world.
